ENLIGHTENED LEADERSHIP WITH CHRIS TAMDJIDI
The Shambhala Tradition

Friday, January 11, 2008
From 7.30pm – 9pm

Buddhism is a spiritual tradition best known for its emphasis on meditation to cultivate wisdom, and compassionate activity to help others. Within the many Buddhist teachings, there are also teachings on leadership. The Buddha gave Dawa Zangpo, the first King of Shambhala, extensive teachings on how to be a King and bring about a good society.

In this introductory talk, Chris Tamdjidi, Director of Shambhala Europe, will present the Shambhala tradition of enlightened leadership, and introduce some of the basic principles of leading with compassion and wisdom.

For those interested in further teachings, there will be a one day workshop on Sunday, January 13, for further discussion and practical exercises on these teachings.

ENLIGHTENED LEADERSHIP – ONE DAY WORKSHOP

Profit or non-profit, is it possible to lead with wisdom and compassion?

Sunday, January 13, 2008
from 10am to 5pm

Tighter deadlines, increasing complexity, and growing financial pressure mark our life as leaders in today’s world. In such an environment, fear, stress, speed, aggression and burn out are frequently the result.

However, it is said that strategies based on developing wisdom, cultivating inner strength and confidence, and especially compassion, do exist and are actually stronger than strategies based on aggression and fear. The tradition of enlightened leadership was taught by the Buddha to the first King of Shambhala, Dawa Zangpo, and continues to be transmitted to this day.

In this workshop, we will explore the basic principles of enlightened leadership, and how to develop wisdom and confidence amidst the speed of today’s work world. This workshop will include a mixture of mindfulness awareness meditation practice, group and individual exercises and discussion groups.

Who should join? Everyone who is interested in cultivating insight and learning to transform their leadership, whether it is within your own family, social circle, work or simply within oneself.

Chris Tamdjidi is the Director of Shambhala in Europe. Shambhala is a worldwide organization of over 200 buddhist centres and groups throughout the world. Chris has also worked as a management consultant for the Boston Consulting Group in Europe and Asia, and has a degree in Physics and an MBA.

Laura will discuss how the practice of meditation enriches our every day lives connecting us with our inherent resources of presence, intelligence and compassion. Also she will also look at how our practice strengthens our capacity for working with others, whether it is family members, in the workplace , or with an organizational community. Our conversation will leave time for questions and answers, so that we can address particular and specific needs of audience members whether they are long time students of meditation or interested beginners.

Our discussion, replete with meditation instruction and tales told by longtime practitioner, and storyteller Laura Simms, will be based on Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche's book TURNING THE MIND INTO AN ALLY, and Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoches' MEDITATION IN ACTION.

Laura Simms is a long-term student of the Chogyam Trungpa, has been extremely active in the New York Shambhala Center for years. She works closely with Richard Reoch (President of Shambhala) as the co-chair of the Advisory Group on Social Action and is keenly interested in how the social dimension of Shambhala can manifest in the world, and is involved in an incredible number of projects related to peace, peace-maker training, leadership development for social activists and so on. Just recently, in July, she was invited to lead the "Ruling Your World" program at Shambhala Mountain Center.

Please visit www.laurasimms.com where you can find out all about her life as an internationally famed story teller and writer. Laura has a fabulous sense of humour and would love to meet Shambhala friends in Singapore!
